WHY CHITOSAN FOR BLEEDING DISORDERS

Works independently of the clotting cascade

AllaQuix® High-Performance is chitosan, a positively-charged biopolymer that attracts negatively-charged red blood cells and forms a mechanical seal over the wound. That means it works by binding red cells, not by activating the clotting cascade your patient may not have. The same property that makes chitosan the standard for U.S. Military combat hemostasis makes it well-suited for hemophilia A, hemophilia B, von Willebrand disease, thrombocytopenia, and other clotting disorders.

AllaQuix® Bandages are calcium alginate adhesive bandages built on the same product family. The pad is absorbent and the soft adhesive border is gentle on patients with thin or fragile skin from chronic factor infusions. Both products are FDA reviewed and cleared, OTC, and no-prescription, which makes them easy to send home with a patient or include in a discharge kit.

FAQ

Common questions from procurement + clinical teams

Does chitosan hemostatic gauze help with hemophilia bleeds?

Chitosan works mechanically: positively-charged chitosan fibers attract negatively-charged red blood cells and form a physical seal over a wound. Because that mechanism is independent of the clotting cascade, AllaQuix® High-Performance chitosan gauze is well-suited for people with hemophilia A, hemophilia B, von Willebrand disease, thrombocytopenia, and other clotting disorders. The same chitosan technology has been used by the U.S. Military for over twenty years. AllaQuix® is FDA reviewed and cleared for OTC use, no prescription required. Patients should always follow guidance from their hemophilia treatment center and use AllaQuix® as part of a broader bleeding-control plan.

Is AllaQuix® safe for patients receiving factor therapy?

AllaQuix® is a topical dressing that works at the wound surface, so it's used alongside — not instead of — a patient's prescribed factor therapy or treatment plan. Patients should always follow guidance from their hemophilia treatment center and use AllaQuix® as part of a broader bleeding-control plan.

Can I include AllaQuix® in a hospital discharge kit?

Yes. Because AllaQuix® is FDA reviewed and cleared for OTC use, it can be included in standardized patient and discharge kits without a prescription. Bulk and case pricing make per-kit cost predictable.

What size of chitosan gauze do you recommend for at-home kits?

Most at-home kits start with High-Performance 2×2 for finger and small-vessel bleeds and 4×4 for larger surface bleeds. We can help you build a kit spec for your patient population — request an evaluation pack or talk to sales.

Do you offer education materials for patient kits?

We can provide guidance on direct-pressure technique and product use to include alongside the dressings. Talk to sales about education inserts for your patient kits.

Is there an HTC discount or bulk procurement program?

Yes. We offer bulk and case pricing for hemophilia treatment center procurement. Request an evaluation pack or talk to sales to set up an account.
